Aalborg University Library is a public library open to all. The library's principal task is to serve Aalborg University.
Library card
In order to borrow material from the library, you must be registered as borrower at Aalborg University Library. Any permanent resident in the country can be admitted as borrower and obtain a library card. New students are registered as borrowers automatically, whereas new members of staff must contact the library for registration.
The library's material can be checked-out by any registered user. Personal ID must be presented upon registration.
The library card is free of charge, and must be used in connection with all loans and requests.
The cardholder is responsible for any misuse of the library card, should it be stolen or lost, until the library has been notified.
In the event of change of address, the library must be notified. It is possible to change one's own address at the library's web site.
Borrowing
Borrowed material must be handled with care. You are not allowed to pass borrowed material on to other borrowers or to write notes or underline text.
The loan period is usually one month for books and journals. In certain cases, the library may stipulate a shorter or longer loan period. The loan period appears on the receipt. Out of consideration to other library users, one should not exceed the loan period.
Due to considerations regarding security and accessibility, certain types of material are not for loan. These materials are for use in the library only. Reference books, the latest journal issues and particularly costly, or rare, materials are not for loan.
You are not allowed to take borrowed material out of the country.
A receipt is issued, when material is borrowed or returned. The return receipt should be kept as proof for a year.
Interlibrary loan
Interlibrary loans are subject to the lending rules of the library from which they have been obtained. Requests for renewals must be made at least three workdays before the loan period expires.
Recall notices and compensations
Material that has not been returned by the end of the loan period, will be recalled by Aalborg University Library once the loan period has been exceeded. Recalled material must be returned no later than the 7th workday following the exceeded loan period. Furthermore, the 1st recall notice notifies that the borrower must pay a fee of DKr. 25 pr. unit, if the material is returned later than 7 workdays after the stated date of return.
If the material is not returned following the 1st recall notice, the borrower will receive a 2nd recall notice this time claiming the payment of fees (DKr 25 pr. unit). Furthermore, the 2nd recall notice will notify the borrower of increased fees (DKr 50 pr. unit), should the material be returned later than 30 workdays following the exceeded loan period. The 2nd recall notice is issued 8 days after the stated date of return.
If the material is not returned following the 2nd recall notice, a 3rd recall notice is issued containing a claim regarding payment of increased fees (DKr 50 pr. unit). The 3rd recall notice is issued on the 31 days after the stated date of return.
If the material is not returned on time following the 3rd recall notice, a claim regarding payment of compensation will be issued after 40 days.
Once the claim regarding payment of compensation has been issued, the fee remains DKr 50 pr. unit, if the material is returned in undamaged condition. An administration fee of DKr 150 is added pr. unit. If the material is lost or damaged, a re-acquisition price is paid together with the fee for overdue return and the administration fee.
If the borrower does not respond to the claim for compensation, the matter will be submitted to collection through the financial authorities with a claim for compensation of the borrowed material along with payment of fees and costs. This takes place 12 weekdays after the time of payment stated on the invoice.
Please notice that due to copyright restrictions, the price of CD-rom, CD and DVD products are considerably higher than the ordinary retail price.
Aalborg University Library will pay the compensation price if material that has been compensated for is returned in undamaged condition within six months of the original claim for compensation.
Overdue return - fees pr. unit
1 - 7 workdays: DKr 0
8 - 30 workdays: DKr 25
31 - 39 workdays: another DKR 25
After 40 workdays: Issue of claim for compensation.
NOTICE: If the sum total of your fees is DKR 500,00 or more, your library card will be blocked. Once your fees have been paid, the blocking will be cancelled automatically.
Damaged or lost material
If borrowed books, journals or other library materials are not returned, or if it is returned in damaged condition, the borrower must pay all expenses regarding re-acquisition or repair. Compensation must be paid, even if it is through no fault of the borrower that the material is lost or damaged.
In cases where damaged or lost material cannot be re-acquired, the borrower pays a sum equivalent to the material's price plus a fee. The sum is fixed by Aalborg University Library.
