Open Access is all about free access to scientific literature. With Open Access research results become accessible to all, and not merely to those who are fortunate enough to benefit from subscriptions or licences to scientific journals.
Open Access is possible whenever a researcher can parallel publish his/her work as a full text file in an open repository. The repository of Aalborg University is The Research Database of Aalborg University, also known as VBN. Also there are Open Access journals whose content is accessible to all. Open Access journals are usually scientific peer-reviewed journals.
Green Open Access
Green Open Access (parallel publishing, e.g. in VBN) means that a researcher is free to upload a version of his/her peer-reviewed scientific article in a repository. As such, a researcher is free to parallel publish both pre-, post-print and/or the publisher’s version of the individual publication in VBN.
Gold Open Access
Aalborg University does not have any other agreements regarding free OA article publishing at present. The university does not have a central fund, where you can apply for Open Access funding. As such, the individual department must decide whether or not the necessary means can be drawn from the department's own budget. If your research project is funded by someone who demands Open Access publication - or parallel publication of your article following a certain embargo period - we recommend that you comply with the present demands.
If your have questions or queries regarding publication charges, please contact the VBN Editorial Office.
